Tequila is more than a drink,  it’s a legacy

Distilled from the agave fields of Jalisco and aged into something rare and refined, tequila has grown from party staple to premium collectible. Once overlooked, it’s now a serious category, favoured by connoisseurs, collectors and investors alike.

At Golden Dram, we offer exclusive access to tequila casks that carry both heritage and long-term value.

Introducing Cazcabel Tequila.

At Golden Dram, we work exclusively with Cazcabel, a distillery that blends tradition with innovation. Produced at the acclaimed NOM 1436 facility in Jalisco, Cazcabel Tequila is crafted using 100% blue agave grown in mineral-rich soils, delivering a flavour profile full of depth and authenticity.

Our featured cask, Cazcabel Añejo, is aged 12 to 18 months in American oak barrels—often repurposed from bourbon aging, adding notes of vanilla, caramel and spice. The porous nature of the wood enhances maturity and complexity over time, resulting in a rich, refined spirit.

As the exclusive UK distributor of Cazcabel, Golden Dram clients receive early access to this growing brand before it expands further into the UK market.

The Origins of Tequila.

Tequila’s story begins more than 2,000 years ago with the indigenous peoples of Jalisco fermenting agave sap into a drink called pulque. When the Spanish arrived in the 16th century, they introduced distillation, transforming pulque into the early form of what we now know as tequila.

Today, true tequila can only be produced in specific regions of Mexico, including Jalisco and select areas of Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit and Tamaulipas. The combination of volcanic soil, altitude and climate gives tequila its distinctive character—something that cannot be replicated elsewhere.

Tequila

  1. Blanco (Silver or White)
Flavor profile: Bright, bold agave flavor; fresh, herbal, and peppery; often used in cocktails.
  2. Reposado (“Rested”)
Flavor profile: Balanced between agave and barrel notes; slight vanilla, caramel, and spice flavors.
  3. Añejo (“Aged”)
Flavor profile: Rich and smooth; more complex flavors like chocolate, tobacco, and dried fruit.
  4. Extra Añejo (“Ultra-Aged”)
Flavor profile: Very rich and luxurious; deep flavors of wood, spice, and roasted agave. Often sipped like fine whiskey or cognac.

Mexico

Tequila is made in Mexico, and specifically, it must be produced in certain designated regions to legally be called “tequila.” These regions are:

The state of Jalisco – this is the heartland of tequila production, especially the area around the town of Tequila itself.

Parts of the states of:

  • Nayarit
  • Guanajuato
  • Tamaulipas
  • Michoacán

To be called tequila, it must be made from blue Weber agave (Agave tequilana) and follow strict regulations set by the Mexican government and the Consejo Regulador del Tequila (CRT).

If it’s made outside of these areas or with other agave types, it must be labeled differently.

Tequila

The aging process for tequila greatly affects its flavor, color, and smoothness. Tequila is typically aged in oak barrels, and based on the length of time it’s aged, it’s classified into the following categories:

  1. Blanco (Silver or White) Aging time: 0 to 2 months
Aged in: Stainless steel or neutral oak barrels (briefly, if at all)
  2. Reposado (“Rested”) Aging time: 2 months to 1 year
Aged in: Oak barrels (usually American or French oak)
  3. Añejo (“Aged”) Aging time: 1 to 3 years
Aged in: Small oak barrels (often ex-bourbon barrels)
  4. Extra Añejo (“Ultra-Aged”) Aging time: Over 3 years
    Aged in: Oak barrels

Each aging level offers a different experience—blanco for fresh agave lovers, reposado and añejo for those who like oak influence, and extra añejo for sipping enthusiasts.

Why tequila casks?

Rooted in craft. Ready to grow.

From its deep cultural roots in Jalisco to its fast-rising global demand, tequila has become one of the most compelling categories in premium spirits. Aged expressions are increasingly sought after, with limited supply and growing international appreciation making tequila casks both meaningful to own and smart to hold.

Global Growth, Local Scarcity

Tequila is one of the fastest-growing spirit categories, expected to more than double in value by 2032. With rising global demand and slow-maturing agave, supply remains limited, especially in premium aged expressions.

A Unique Asset for Your Portfolio

A Unique Asset for Your Portfolio : Just like whisky, tequila gains value as it matures—from Blanco to Reposado to Añejo and beyond. Each stage of aging adds depth, character, and collectability. As market trends evolve, we provide strategic guidance on optimal timing. Current insights suggest 2025 may be an ideal window to bottle Extra Añejo, aligning with peak demand. However, the best timing will ultimately depend on your intended use of the asset—whether for resale, bottling, or long-term holding.

Crafted with Meaning

Every cask tells a story—charting the journey from agave harvest to final bottling. It’s more than a purchase; it’s a chance to be part of a tradition, a culture, and a growing movement toward intentional, considered ownership.

Accelerated Aging Journey

Tequila experiences a higher evaporation rate, this is due in part to its climate, aging process, and natural evaporation rate—often referred to as the “angel’s share. This process creates scarcity,  faster market-readiness, but also influences flavor and yield, ultimately adding value and exclusivity over time. It’s a shorter journey—but one no less meaningful.
