Ben Nevis

The Ben Nevis Distillery was founded in 1825 by ‘Long John’ McDonald, a Highland chieftain and legendary figure in Scottish whisky lore. It is located at the foot of Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the British Isles, near Fort William in the western Highlands of Scotland.

McDonald was a towering character (hence the nickname “Long John”), and he quickly built the distillery’s reputation for producing robust Highland-style whisky. The distillery is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland and has a rich, sometimes tumultuous history, passing through various owners and operating statuses over the decades.
